Relationship Counseling for Couples and Partners in Oregon

A Space to Reconnect, Repair, and Grow Together

Every relationship goes through seasons. Sometimes you feel deeply connected. Other times, it feels like you’re speaking different languages. Whether you’re navigating conflict, communication breakdowns, or just feeling distant, relationship counseling can help you and your partner find your way back to understanding and closeness.

At Time for Therapy, we offer relationship counseling for couples who want to strengthen their connection, improve communication, and work through challenges together. Our focus isn’t on diagnosing or treating mental health conditions for either partner – it’s on supporting the relationship itself as the client.

Because relationship counseling is designed to improve the dynamic between partners rather than treat an individual’s mental health condition, it isn’t covered by insurance. These sessions are private-pay only, allowing us to focus on what truly matters: helping you both reconnect without the limitations of insurance requirements.

When Is It Time to Get Relationship Counseling?

You don’t have to wait until things feel dire to seek help. In fact, the sooner you reach out, the easier it can be to make meaningful change. Relationship counseling may be a good fit if:

✔ You find yourselves having the same arguments over and over again.
✔ Communication feels tense, distant, or filled with misunderstandings.
✔ Trust has been shaken, and you want to rebuild it.
✔ Life transitions—like parenting, career changes, or relocation—have created strain.
✔ You feel disconnected, lonely, or like roommates instead of partners.
✔ You want to strengthen your foundation before marriage, separation, or other big decisions.

Relationship counseling isn’t about assigning blame. It’s about understanding patterns, rebuilding trust, and learning to move forward together.

What Does Relationship Counseling Look Like?

Every relationship is unique, which means every counseling process is, too. Our therapists provide a supportive, neutral space where both partners can speak openly and feel heard. We use evidence-based approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman-informed methods to help you deepen understanding, resolve conflict, and build connection.

Some of the ways we support couples include:

💬 Improving Communication & Understanding – Learning to express needs and emotions clearly and listen without defensiveness.
❤️ Rebuilding Trust & Intimacy – Repairing wounds from betrayal, distance, or unmet expectations.
🌿 Managing Conflict in Healthy Ways – Developing new tools for handling disagreements constructively.
💞 Strengthening Connection – Rekindling closeness and emotional intimacy.
⚖️ Navigating Life Transitions Together – Adjusting to new roles, challenges, and seasons of life as a team.

Relationship Counseling vs. Couples Therapy

It’s easy to use the terms interchangeably, but there’s an important difference:

  • Relationship counseling focuses on the relationship as a unit. The goal is to improve communication, resolve conflict, and strengthen connection—not to diagnose or treat a mental health condition in either partner.

  • Couples therapy, on the other hand, is often considered a form of psychotherapy. It can address underlying individual issues (like depression, anxiety, trauma, or attachment wounds) that impact the relationship.

Because relationship counseling is not designed or billed as psychotherapy, it’s considered a self-pay service rather than a reimbursable health service under insurance.

What You Can Expect

We’ll begin by getting to know both of you—your story, your hopes, and what brought you here. Together, we’ll clarify goals, identify patterns, and build new ways of communicating that bring more understanding and compassion into your relationship.

There’s no judgment, no sides, and no rush. Just a safe space to slow down, get curious, and rediscover what connects you.

Ready to Begin?

Whether you’ve been together for six months or twenty years, relationship counseling can help you move from frustration to understanding, and from disconnection to closeness.

If you’re ready to start working on your relationship with the same care and intention you’d give to any other part of your life, we’re here to help.
